Our memory box is filling up & postcards start arriving…
Our memory box is now filling up with all sorts of memory prompting items
We know that reminiscing has tremendous therapeutic benefits to our residents, talking about their past lives, hobbies and relationships has a positive effect on their self-esteem and our sense of feeling ‘valued’ as an individual person.
Reminiscing is a golden opportunity for our residents to trigger fond memories, creating ‘moments in time’ of contentment and happiness. If our residents have memory problems, it is important to ‘use’ the past as a way to make sense of the present.
We have been taking items out of the box and making the effort to reminisce….old leaflets, stamps, brochures, letters, posters, and bric-a-brac, to spur memories. In other news, our first postcards addressed to the residents have started arriving, in response to our Postcards of kindness initiative. Several have arrived from Scotland, and one from Malta amazingly. So if you are reading this, do pop one in the post to the residents of Brockhampton, and we will read it out!
