Deafness- simulating loss of control
To highlight the important campaign of Deaf Awareness Week we set our staff a small challenge. We bought a selection of fresh cream cakes and the residents picked which care staff they would like to assist eating the cakes but there was a twist to it which staff weren’t aware of.
Staff would be wearing ear plugs and an eye mask to simulate not having control. Whilst this is a somewhat silly and fun event, Deafness and hearing loss affects 1 in 6 people in the UK and it is important to consider how those affected feel. Staff said it did help them understand the issues highlighted by Deafness and lack of control.
